Find out what the work environment is like and make sure that you know for sure what the dress code is that all of the other employees follow.

You should also make sure that your gas tank is full for the day you have to start.

Once you figure out exactly what the normal attire is for work, you need to make sure that you have a wardrobe that fits this work environment. You need to be dressed well and dressed according to the type of position that you will be working at. If you have several different items in your closet set aside for the new job it is going to give you a more confident feeling when you start.

If you have time prior to your start date, it's a very good idea that you take some time to go over your skills and test them to see how rusty you might be. If you feel you could benefit from some refresher courses, look and see if your area has a career center where you can polish your skills. Updating your skills, even if it's for a day or two is going to help you build your confidence for that first day you walk into your new job.

New jobs don't always start immediately so if you have time and you feel that you have yourself completely prepared for that first day then you should try taking a couple of days for yourself so that you can relax.

Take advantage of any free time you have left before the first day of work and spend some quality time with your family if you are married or go away for a couple of days to a place you have been wanting to go to but never have had a chance to do so before.
